NewcastleGateshead Initiative Annual General Meeting
In January 2011, Hi-Lights once again worked with NewcastleGateshead Initiative to produce their 10th Anniversary celebration and to stage the Annual General Meeting. Having worked with NGI since 2005 on projects such as Bambuco , Illuminating Hadrian's Wall , the Living Frontier Pageant and the NewcastleGateshead World Cup Host City Bid it was another great opportunity for Hi-Lights to showcase their design and full service capabilities.
The new ‘Sport Central' complex at Northumbria University was chosen as the venue, allowing Hi-Lights to be creative and imaginative with the design of the space. The brief requested that there should be two distinct spaces, one for the AGM and a second for networking and a small presentation following the meeting. For the conference space a bespoke stage set was designed and built by the team which incorporated three large scale projection screens. Two live cameras were used during the AGM to relay the speakers' faces onto the side screens, while the main presentation was shown on the centre screen. An intelligent lighting system was installed to light the set with vibrant colours and to allow the NGI logo to be projected as a backdrop.
The 350m2 networking space was dressed as a gallery with 12 Plasma screens, each showing a different presentation. The exhibition allowed guests to relive the last ten years through images of NGI's past events and milestones.
The event was a brilliant opportunity to highlight the versatility of the venue to the NGI members alongside the expertise of Hi-Lights. Feedback deemed the evening a great success; Professor Andrew Wathey, Northumbria University's Vice Chancellor, said he hadn't realised the full potential of how the hall could be transformed until he had seen it used this way.
