Prime Minister Visits Nissan
Gordon Brown announced that Nissan has plans to create hundreds of new jobs in a £200m investment to build batteries for electric cars in Sunderland, and we were there to assist with the event.
The Brief
Working closely with JBH Design we were asked to provide lighting, rigging and power distribution for the official announcement that Nissan has chosen Sunderland as its main European base to manufacture electric vehicles. The event was presented to a number of distinguished guests, Nissan employees and the national press. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave his personal backing to the scheme.
The location of the event provided a unique backdrop for the launch whilst also presenting its own challenges. Working alongside the production line meant that we needed to find bespoke ways of hanging our lighting equipment whilst ensuring that we did not interfere with the working line.
The Solution
Trussing was hung from the roof providing points to hang both lighting and sound equipment. This ensured that all equipment and cabling was above floor level ensuring that the installation was neat, tidy and free of any trip hazards.
The lighting installation comprised of fresnels to provide both front and back light for a general stage wash and profiles to add extra impact to speakers at each lectern. Colour correction was added to compensate for the general florescent lighting in the factory. We also used 12 Source 4 Junior profiles to individually light the various logos on the backdrop of the stage.
Finally we were asked to build a stage with a 10 degree slope to display a Nissan Micra decorated with the Union flag. This was constructed using SteelDeck staging that has the capacity of carrying huge weights and is ideal for situations such as this.
Steve Butters from JBH Design said "A big thank you to you and your guys; all were great to work with!!".
